iRhythm’s Zio Patch is a wearable monitor, capable of recording cardiac activity for up to fourteen days at a time. Analysis of the data captured by the patch can provide vital insights into a patient’s heart activity, particularly arrhythmias. Design of the (printed) reports therefore required a careful balancing of potentially critical clinical data with issues of accessibility and usability, while catering to the specific needs of certain physicians (cardiologists look for different information from electrophysiologists, for example). Many physicians also receive reports via fax, adding further constraints to the overall information presentation.
